What is fitness? The first definition of fitness is: “health”. Health is defined as “the general condition of the body or mind with reference to soundness and vigor: good health; poor health.”
So to explore the future of fitness, we need to know how technology will impact our health. According to famed futurist Ray Kurzweil, within this century we will have blood-cell-sized nanobots, swimming through our bloodstreams keeping us healthy by zapping cancer, correcting DNA errors, removing toxins, extending our memories and eating up brownies before they hit our thighs. And we’ll have chips in our bodies that will transmit our personal health data to and from devices and our brain. Read the whole blogpost by Courtney Boyd Myers and related at http://thenextweb.com/
“The opportunity here for technologies companies is to develop an attractive and engaging platform that will warmly incentivize positive behaviors, and help patients nudge themselves in healthier directions.”

“Nearly 10 percent of the world’s adults have diabetes, and the prevalence of the disease is rising rapidly. As in the United States and other wealthy nations, increased obesity and inactivity are the primary cause in such developing countries as India and in Latin America, the Caribbean and the Middle East.
That’s the sobering conclusion of a study published Saturday in the journal Lancet that traces trends in diabetes and average blood sugar readings in about 200 countries and regions over the past three decades.” Read the whole story at washingtonpost.com
“Last week at Ford’s press event, I got to check out another Sync application that’s in development. WellDoc is a monitoring service for diabetics, so they can log meals and glucometer results through an iPhone app. With WellDoc, Sync will detect if you haven’t logged any data recently, dial Sync services over Bluetooth, and have the automated system produce a yes-and-no dialogue which makes sure your blood sugar levels are all good and healthy. If they aren’t, WellDoc is able to suggest the next best course of action, like popping a glucose tab. If blood sugar levels are dangerous, Sync will send a text message to your emergency contact about the situation, and in the future, it might send another to let them know that the driver has reached home safe and sound.”
